Remains of a Winter Guest
We frequently are host to large wildlife, in all seasons. One of our winter favourites is the moose, they are very territorial and often a mother with a calf or two, or a lone male will pick out a large area and come back time and time again, year after year. Fences don't keep them out, or in, as their gangly legs are not as clumsy as they seem, and they simply walk over the fence. They're mesmerizing to watch, its a sight I never tire of even though its almost commonplace for us, but they do leave behind evidence of their presence, which we often don't find until the snow is all gone, in the form of moose poop and chewed off sections of bark or broken off red willow branches.

Wow - a little bit bigger wildlife in your backyard than in mine!!!
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you - and I wish I knew the name of that first flower - it grows in clumps between the rocks and has clusters of these blooms (they are actually only about 2 - 3 cm across) and come in all sorts of colors.
I love wildlife; your moose is gorgeous but yes, gangly, looking. I did not know they chew sections of bark. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteare you still having winter ???
ReplyDeleteIt is so neat that you regularly see moose in your yard. You probably see lots of wildlife though where you live. Thanks for visiting my newest blog. I've been posting photos, but am trying to get braver and hope to actualy write on this new blog.
ReplyDeleteIs your son recovering well?
when everyone else in the northern hemisphere is going on about the beautiful spring and memorial day marking the beginning of summer, why are you still experiencing winter? :)
ReplyDeleteOh I can remember vivit about G telling me they do just step over fences. I still find it hard to believe, but I know it so true. Love the pics. How about your last snow, is it gone again?
