So different from last Saturday!

"Saturday, Saturday, Ooh I Like my Saturdays,
Two thirds off long distance every Saturday
I like my Saturday, to call my friends who moved away.
la, la, la la, that's not all
I call my friends for two thirds off!"
That's a TV commercial jingle from my childhood
Before unlimited calling or Skyping across the world
Funny how they stay with you.
Then, I liked Saturdays because there was no school
We had Saturday morning Bugs Bunny, Flintstones and the Jetsons
Then the whole day to play outside
That's what I remember anyways.

Nowadays, Saturday is my one day off.
Last Saturday was aforewritten the cleaning frenzy.
This Saturday, no such thing.

I was up till the wee hours of the morning,
So sleeping 'till 9:30 was not completely insane.
Never mind the fact that I only got up 'cause I kept dreaming I had to pee
And couldn't find a bathroom
When I crawled out of bed and padded to the bathroom,
It turned out the dog had much the same idea,
and needed to pee.

After we got back, I sat on the couch to scratch (me, not the dog, mind you!)
and wonder what I would do for the day.
Should I turn the TV on so I could do my knitting?
Make a coffee and start a new book?
After ruminating for an hour
I fell asleep!
Good thing my better half came home just then, and guilt forced me to get up.
I did go make that cuppa
Did drink it back on the couch,
while we discussed my son's truck and what to do about it.
Finally, I decided I better accomplish something.
So I sorted some laundry into his, hers and theirs
So I headed to my office/craft room.
Turns out I did get a lot done,
While listening to internet radio folk music,
I got 4 or 5 pages made of my ornament scrapbook.
Which while it may not sound like much,
Is an accomplishment.

Between that and throwing a pizza in the oven,
I also managed to get some shopping done.
Picked up my cell phone from my friends where it had lain since last Friday
Dead as a doornail.
And even did the dishes.
Now it's 8:30, and the day was not a bust.
Seldom is a day a complete bust!

  1. Fantastic way to spend a Saturday in my opinion! I love your photos and almost chocked on my cuppa when you said you scratched, then clarified... good one! lol Sheesh, the heats gotten to me here, I started to type in Jick and Dane... Dick and Jane baseball, love it!

... so what's the outcome of son's truck? I'm curious and question two, how old is son? I got to see two of my three children on Skype today and my precious granddaughter and my amazing daughter-in-law, thank goodness for Skype!

I hope your Sunday is just as productive as your Saturday! Cheers from down unda!

  3. Hi Joyce ... I had planned to email you but then realized it was a "no comment" address. The wording I did on the heading was on a program called Elements 9. I think there is a newer version out now. I bought mine when it was on sale as it is a little pricey.

  5. Joyce, you remind me of a butterfly...fluttering from sweet thing to another.

I also played outside on Saturday....after doing the house-cleaning jobs assigned by my mother.

Now you've made me want to sit on the couch and drink coffee.

  6. I was looking for the original commercial, but couldn't find it. Thank you for remembering all the lyrics. I had a friend who added different lyrics to this jingle. http://keswickpinhead.deviantart.com/journal/Saturday-Saturday-Ooh-I-love-my-Saturday-295990689
