The Itch

Don't get me wrong
I like having a big window in my bedroom office
(my office office has a window that I can't see out of when I am working)

There are far more pros than cons
when it's the dead of winter
with three feet of snow
and temperatures to freeze your lungs if you dare breathe
it's nice to be behind the glass
with a little electric heater at my feet subsidising the wood stove heat

but the last dredges of snow melted a few days ago,
the temperature is bearable
the wind is blowing
(I like wind)
and I really, really want to be outside.

There's something in the spring air that calls,
louder than the summer heat
"come outside, be outside, work outside"

I can hear it now...

I am finished my work for today
as Wednesdays are half days for me
and I'm going to go find some work gloves, the wheelbarrow
and a rake

and be outside.

To laugh or cry

We've all heard it said
Raising a teen is hard work

How did the little darlings
Turn into another species
When did it happen
Why did it happen

and is it irreversible?

To laugh or to cry?
Maybe one day down the road
we'll look on this time
laugh and say
"remember when?"

But for now
it's that old one day at a time thing
Make the best of it when it's good
And try to not take it personally when it's bad
It's a good thing parental love is what it is
But i have to say

unplanned

'twas my intention to find signs of spring
as i wandered around the marsh/bird sanctuary in town

there were a few, like pussy willows, Canada geese
and a representative group of the local duck community
testing their water wings on a small space of unfrozen pond

but my camera would not cooperate
and i was ready to pack it in
it insisted on focusing on what i did not want to focus on

when i heard a young burble gurgle of a tiny waterfall
sight unseen

i followed my ears
and got closer
then this old bridge appeared

i wondered why it was there
on a path that came from the high school on the left
and the arena on the right

but led to seemingly nowhere
all the while appreciating my luck

i stepped from one rotten old plank to the next
each one feeling like spongy peat under my feet
i had visions of a troll's gnarly claws catching my foot
and breaking my ankle

********
cause that's just the kind of thing i would do

ask anyone who knows me

anyways, i followed the mushy bridge,
got a wet shoe, sock and foot and a muddy knee and shin
nothing that won't clean up

********

my camera stayed dry
(priorities)

 and lo and behold
i found that it was not a nasty old troll's bridge after all

*********

but a kite-eating partner of Charlie Brown's kite-eating tree!!

how lucky for me!

Rain Dance

nobody like rain when it gets carried away with itself,
not when its raining cats and dogs
or raining buckets
(but maybe if its raining men)

the first rain of the spring though, when the wet stuff falling from the sky is not white
and does not build up for months
is a joyous occasion indeed!

Can it really be??

I had to wipe my eyes to make sure I was seeing straight
Could it really be??
Is the long winter finally over?
are those.....
could they be......

Pussy Willows????

I do believe they are.

There is only one around who does not want the snow to go.
He's been on bed rest and controlled leash walks all winter.
Now he is finally allowed some "free play"

Sorry Monty, but you'll enjoy spring too!!

I've got the bloggin blues

Okay, I've spent the last hour
Trying to spring up my blog
It's most definitely not how I want it

As I sit here watching Mrs Walowitz and Sheldon in a dressing room
On the Big Bang Theory show
She's trying on a dress
She says
 "I can't make it fit
If I shove the front in, the back pops out
If I shove the back in, the front pops out"

That's kind of how I feel right now.
If I change one thing, the other moves
then I change the thing back
And the original one moves.
Get it?

Me neither.

I'm confused
and confuddling
and exasperated
and out of patience

Any help, especially for centering the header pic
Is greatly appreciated

Seriously???

Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have gotten together
to play an April Fool's joke on us.

This is the view outside my bedroom window right now

I am not amused!!
