Through Moon Coloured Glasses

"The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas"

...or so wrote Alfred Noyes.

When I lay me down to sleep
On a clear night
With a full moon
A shaft of moonlight shines through my window
And slants across my bed.

There's something romantic about falling to sleep in a moonbeam
The word moonbeam in itself
Opens a world of imagination

And I lay back on my bed
Measure the moon with one eye open
Close my eyes
Think my bedtime thoughts
Open one eye again
And see how the moon has silently slid up & over
In that short time
Amazed at its speed, I keep watch this time
Watch it creep closer to the window frame

As I watch I can actually see it move
See the last tiny sliver of moon
As it slides out of sight

But not out of mind

  1. Beautifully written and conceived. I love moonbeams, too. And falling asleep in one's path is so lovely!

  3. It seems as if a number of people are in tune with my memories tonight. I can remember a beam of light which always played on my covers when I stayed at grandma's house. Not a moonbeam, but the warm glow from a streetlight outside the window. To this day I see the moon, or a traditional street lamp, and think of my grandma, and warm summer nights. Thanks for the memory.

  4. Thanks for your kind words on my blog. What a great shot of the moon and the words that accompanied it were thoughtfully written - there is nothing like falling asleep under a moonbeam.

  6. Wonderful! Moon pix are so hard to capture—for me, anyhow—and this one is lovely. Lovely sentiment, too :)
